Our first meeting of the year was given by Julie Ritchie from Hoo House Nursery. It was a very interesting talk describing a wide range of perennials and bulbs that provide colour and interest during the winter to spring months. Julie offered plenty of advice and great ideas for planting combinations.
February’s talk on Monday 1st at 7.30pm will be given by Ken Thompson a renowned plant ecologist and author. This will be a fabulous talk in which Ken will dispel the myths around gardening for wildlife. Details for joining this online zoom talk will follow shortly. I have set it up now so that people will be able to join using a laptop/iPad/PC/mobile phone or landline. If you join by phone, you will be able to listen to the talk but won’t be able to see any slides. This might be a great alternative if your internet connection is not very strong.
Our monthly zoom meetings are becoming increasingly popular with more people joining us each month. 57 logged on for Julie’s January talk which was great. It’s difficult to know when we will be able to get back to face to face meetings but in the meantime, online meetings are very enjoyable.
Following the success of last year’s virtual Summer Show, we have decided to host a virtual Spring Show. Watch this space for more information in the weeks ahead. There will be plenty of varied and exciting classes to enter – online of course.
Lastly, for those who weren’t able to join us for the AGM in December, I would like to let you all know that we have two new committee members! Welcome and thanks to Brenda Stroud and Sue Bienkowska for joining the committee. Thanks also to Geraldine Yates, who stepped down, for all her hard work over the last few years.
Stay safe and happy gardening!
Liz Thomas
