Rowan Griffiths will be talking about the gardens at Hergest Croft, where he has been a gardener for 15 years. His duties include responsibility for the recording and labelling of the collection and he is also a member of the RHS Rhododendron, Camellia and Magnolia group, International Dendrology Society and Maple Society.

Hergest Croft is located near Kington in Herefordshire. The stunning 70 acre gardens have been created and extended by five generations of the Banks family, and boast one of the finest collections of plants and shrubs in the UK, with many rare and exotic species and over 130 Champion trees, as well as national collections of Maples, Birches and Zelkovas. Rowan is pictured here with a Magnolia macrophylla.
The WCHS will be running the plant creche at the Malvern Autumn Show on Sunday Sept 27th and we need 24 volunteers to man the creche, working for an hour or two in return for free entry to the show. There will be a signing up sheet for volunteers at the September meeting. If you can’t make the meeting please ask someone else to sign up for you (giving Name, Tel No., Email and any times not available).
The talk will start at 7.30pm in Colwall Village Hall. However, do come along from 7pm to enjoy a hot drink and a chat as well as the plant stall and raffle.
It’s the last plant sale for this year so we would be very grateful for any donated plants, cuttings, divisions and seedlings for the stall. And please bring along a bag for any plants you buy from the stall as we need to keep the floor of the village hall clean and free of compost.
