Garden historian and author Vanessa Berridge will delve into the story of the three generations of women who have cared for and transformed the renowned Kiftsgate Court Gardens. Kiftsgate is a family-run garden in the Cotswolds featuring rare plants and shrubs including the world-famous Kiftsgate rose.
The society’s annual Michael Jefferson-Brown competition is held at the April meeting and we would love lots of members to take part. There are 2 classes:
- Pot or container of growing flowering bulbs, corms or tubers
- Vase or container of cut flowers grown from bulbs, corms or tubers
Entries are judged on quality and presentation, with a trophy awarded for the best exhibit.

Vanessa is a freelance writer; her latest book ‘Garden Heaven’ explores 32 of the National Trust’s most glorious gardens.
She was the launch editor of The English Garden magazine in 1997 and writes widely for magazines and newspapers focusing on gardening, garden history and food.
In addition to her writing career, Vanessa is also heavily involved in the NGS for Gloucestershire, formerly as publicity officer and now as county organiser. She opens her own garden in Winchcombe for the NGS each year.
The talk will start at 7.30pm. However, do come along from 7pm to enjoy a hot drink and a chat as well as the plant stall, raffle, and bulb competition.
We would be very grateful for any donated plants, cuttings, divisions and seedlings for the plant stall. Please bring along a bag for any plants you buy from the stall as we need to keep the floor of the village hall clean and free of compost.
